Cng Car Sales In India: CNG share in PV sales up 3X in 3 years; top OEMs strategise for market edge, ET Auto

The CNG-powered passenger vehicle (PV) sales have increased 310% from 1.02 lakh units in 2019 to 4.21 lakh units in 2022. Currently, four major OEMs offer a total of 24 CNG models. With better availability of supplies, new CNG model launches, strengthening of CNG infrastructure and the reduction in CNG prices, the CNG penetration is expected to grow from about 11% in 2023 to 18% in 2027.

As part of the global pact between Toyota and Suzuki, the maker of Innova has showcased its entry-level MPV in the Indian market -- Rumion, which is a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. With this, Toyota is targeting personal consumers, predominantly male and businessmen. The market leader in the MPV segment expects this category to grow at a similar pace as SUVs.

The auto major said it has a strong pipeline of new launches for the passenger car business and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and feels quite confident to have a strong FY24. It is extremely well positioned "to not only continue to capture growth but gain market share." Starting with the updated Nexon, it will bring a total of four EVs by early next year. While the automaker has no plans to venture into hybrid vehicles, it is working on hydrogen technology for CVs.
